Where are actually the driving force come from? What makes you want to create and make ideas into reality, or to fight the heart and soul with something that might just give something beautiful to look at. To remember. Sometimes I ask myself is, what makes me really do what I do today. One thing I know, anyway, that my biggest motivator not have to do with money. If so, I would have saddled on long ago.
I read some comments in my blog post about my photo calendars that I sell now. Sensitive as I am, there were some comments, which certainly was not bad meant, but that made me sad and left me with a difficult feeling the rest of the day. A feeling that I swear that so many artists, photographers, stamp dealers writers, small business owners, artisans, etc. often get to feel. The feeling you get when someone think that what you have created stamp dealers is not worth the price they put on their creations. Because they compare with the price of something similar being sold by a million companies. And then it has nothing to do with if you can not afford stamp dealers or do not want to prioritize what is at stake. Not being able to afford something stamp dealers or think something is too expensive are two entirely different things.
This comments and people's thoughts about the price of my calendars got me still think and start thinking. But before I dig myself deeper into the thoughts I want to show you why my photo calendars costs 300 SEK. Exactly how much cost I've spent and how much income I get. Actually so well the economy something you usually keep to yourself, but now I do not care it. For the reason that I think this is something that is very important to highlight. Partly to explain for those who do not understand why you have to keep a certain price when you are small business owners, but also for all the other creative people out there who like me are selling or working with something that it itself creates / manufactures and sometimes almost wish give up because it does not always give any real profit, even though people snaps "But oh, expensive".
In order to demonstrate more clearly what I mean, so here's a spreadsheet on the 100 photo calendars I printed up. And for those of you who say there are cheaper places to buy calendars so you have of course quite right, but I want quality and good photo paper for the pictures, so I did not take the cheapest option. I want to give my customers a photo calendar that will last.
Expenses for 100 calendars Printing stamp dealers Cost with shipping (excluding stamp dealers VAT): 11 625 - Shipping / stamps (to send the calendars to customers, which was included in the price): 3600 - Packaging: 750: - Print Materials (receipt stamp dealers paper, ink for printers etc.): about 100 - VAT to the tax office 2125: -
So this means that for every photo calendar I sell so I can retain 82.60 kr. In the photo calendar, you get 12 pieces of photos taken of me, carefully selected stamp dealers and printed on real photographic paper. 12/82, 60 is approximately 6.88 per photo.
It is clear that it feels very little, especially when I think of all the time I spent on each photo and just all the time behind the job with the calendars. stamp dealers It is as well not to take out any money for the time they spent. I got the hint in the comments to lower the price to sell more, then more people would be able to afford. But the thing is that if I lower the price, so I did not have counsel. Last year I sold my photo calendars for 250 SEK each. Would I have done the same this year, I had earned the entire 3.92 per photo. So even though I wish I could take a cheaper price for my calendars, so it is not so easy. Perhaps you are beginning to understand what I mean
Of course you can buy a cheaper calendar with high quality, stamp dealers with beautiful natural images and mixed images of horses and cats at your nearest bookstore for 79 kr. Why is it so cheap then? Well, because it might be printed in thousands or tens of thousands of copies, making printing stamp dealers costs much cheaper per calendar. Mine is propped up in a mere 100 copies. And then do it of course, that it should be worth more, however. "100 copies stamp dealers worldwide, wow! Unique! "But so do people think first if you are really famous or has a big name. Only then can withdraw money and a fair wage for what you do without people point out that it is too expensive. But if you are not there, so it becomes very, very difficult to compete with the big companies.
Thérèse wrote a very good and thought-provoking comment on the previous post: "How many of you who comment that she should stamp dealers push more to make it cheaper living as self-employed with little or no margins? I of course know nothing about Jonna's financial situation, but few of us solo entrepreneurs are able to shell out thousands of dollars up front without being sure of getting your money back. And few of us are trying to sell our goods or services with unreasonable margins; soon as usually the reverse be the problem. You take out the small margins in order to even get
