As promised here I am to pick up a couple of posts those are two things that I have learned (so far) on the irresistible carving [carving], tools, materials and a little 'practice ... Since I started to play with this technique I have received many emails and comments curious about where to buy the raw materials and how to make your own stamps, so here's how I work ;)
What you need: * raw material in order to achieve the stamp (rubber, linoleum, adigraf, etc.). * Tools to engrave (gouges) * knife * necessary to draw (paper, pencil, eraser) * color (stamp pad)
Paper and pencil you will need to make a sketch of your stamp, have a precise idea of your project will help you to draw lines safe. The cutter will be useful for the work of carving.
The raw material> Linoleum (usually dark brown) is readily available in art shops or the like, is a great support for the stamps because it is soft but not too much and is available in various sizes (also great). Returns true especially prints on paper. L 'adigraf, green-blue is much more soft, rubbery and flexible linoleum is used to score easily and is located in the well-stocked white card online stationery (often in a kit with a gouge). It 'a good support especially for practice or for children. The block of rubber white card online [rubber block] is the perfect material for the stamps. Soft but compact, easy to hack even in the tiny details and with a perfect performance in printing, both on paper and cloth. Of course, the rubber engraving in Italy is absolutely nowhere to be found. The thing that looks like her is the very common eraser (the white one for instance), the disadvantage is the small size but to do some testing is a good compromise. The rubber I use is the "Speedball Speedy-Cut Carving white card online Blocks". You can make a good research on the web and discover the various American sites (mostly) who sell it, my favorite is DickBlick but I can not testify on shipping costs and delivery because so far I have received my tires from a friend who lives in America: )
The instruments> The same goes for carving tools [-carving tools gouges], in art stores, you can find them in various qualities and with different tips. Those for linoleum are pretty good, very cheap but not very precise, white card online to tiny details is better to choose a good gouge with a sharp point which allows to draw sharp lines without the support crumble. The tools for wood carving are more expensive but much more good. If you then decide to buy the rubber Speedball on the web then inserted into the basket too "Speedball Linoleum Cutters" (on DickBlick here), a gouge that has a handle and five other tips for carving. It goes perfectly with the rubber but carves very well the linoleum, the tips are sharp and very precise.
Color> To my stamps at the time I love to use the pads of color, are very practical and available in a plethora of shades. You may find in some stores (well-stocked) of articles for hobby or scrapbooking and of course those who specialize in the stamps on the web or in stores especially for scrapbooking. Those with whom I work are "VersaColor" paper and "VersaCraft" or "RicoDesign" (the latter white card online from Opitec) to the tissues.
Considerations} At the end of this long post you need to keep in mind that what I have told you is just my experience, I learn what I like practicing and experimenting with techniques, materials and tools. This means that most likely the perfect tool for me it will be for each of you, that the type of rubber that I use to someone may seem too soft or whatever white card online ... So my advice is to choose and economic instruments practice. To start will be a perfect slab of linoleum, a box cutter and a pair of any gouges. These should be one with the tip of the "U" to dig the wider parts of your design with the tip and a "V" for fine lines, contours and details.
Ps: after all this waffle, I have to do a little quote for the artist that I gave birth to a passion for this technique, you Geninne. If you take a ride in his blog will take your breath ... Categories> white card online blablabla ..., stamps, tutorials, comments> 30
What a nice tutorial! Thank you so much, especially for the goodies on the online shops. I was especially interested in the discourse of sghorbie. In my town I found only one with the tip of the thin U-V-me is hard to find .. but the continued
